Facebook News Feed experiments

Facebook advertising is becoming a staple of online marketing. With over 5 million business’ advertising on Facebook each month its no wonder that when they make a change it get’s a big reaction.

Last month Facebook experimented with a new feature called Explore. This meant separating what your friends are posting from news etc. This meant that the only way to get into the personal news feed would be through sponsored posts.

Facebook only tested Explore in six places – Sri Lanka, Bolivia, Slovakia, Serbia, Guatemala, and Cambodia – but got a huge reaction. Described as “Biggest drop in organic reach we’ve ever seen
“ People reported losing 75% of interactions.

Facebook explained that the experiment was to see if people prefer separate places for private and public content but saying that they “Currently have no plans to roll this test out further,”
