Google fined for promoting its own services

Google has been given a three-month deadline to change the way it operates its shopping comparison service. 

Currently, the Google shopping ads appear at the top of many search result pages, and they have been fined for abusing their power and distorting the market. 

Illegal under EU Antitrust rules

Margrethe Vestager, European Union’s Competition Commissioner has stated “What Google has done is illegal under EU antitrust rules” and they have been investigating Google Shopping since 2010.

Google consider an appeal

In response to the ruling, a spokesman has said “We respectfully disagree with the conclusions announced today….and we look forward to continuing to make our case”
