Independence Educational Publishers needed a new, modern online platform for their Issues Online product.
The Issues Online platform was quite a few years old, without a substantial update for the past 5 years.
Given the move from printed publications to online resources, Independence Educational Publishers identified the need to replace the site with a new, modern, mobile and tablet friendly application.
Realnet built a fresh new platform for Independence, which included a number of new features including related videos and articles, an overhauled easier to manage reporting system and the ability to sign-up for a free trial online.
Initially, a map of user journeys through the website to free trial or subscription enquiry (with associated pages) was created. This helped to identify the most economic way to introduce checkout pages to the website and to establish how certain pages could be updated with calls to action appropriate for the audience (new visitors versus those on a free trial).
As a ‘single purchase’ subscription was all that was required, Realnet were able to custom build a streamlined checkout system that consisted of just a checkout page, confirmation, SagePay call and receipt page. This was integrated to the existing backend admin system so that previously manually entered data was populated for subscription and related records. Modules for order management and SagePay transaction ongoing were also introduced.
Login and subscription-based triggers also allowed for different calls to action to be displayed on certain pages depending upon the visitor type.
Page views increased on the new site by 35% and the bounce rate also dropped by 19%.
The new site has been well received by users who can quickly and safely search for information on difficult and controversial subjects.
The new site is also much easier to administer giving Independence much greater content management functionality.
"Realnet worked with us to bring our very outdated education platform, Issues Online, up to date. The site received a complete re-vamp which, aesthetically, we love. But the most impressive and impactful change has been to the back-end of the site, with its expansive new CMS facilities. Issues Online are extremely content-heavy and we now have the facility to easily and quickly upload new information. We are also able to manage all of our subscribers in one place, which is invaluable, and have an automated free-trial process. Overall, the developments to the site have increased our subscriber base and continue to save us several hours' labour each week."
