Playing in the Sandbox
Playing in the Sandbox
by Dr Tony Berg

It is now well established that Google looks on new websites as youngsters who need to spend time in the sandbox before they are allowed out into the real world.
Reasons for this decision by Google abound but remain speculation.
But the effect is real – new websites are not listed in the Google results.
A new website will not be shown by Google for possibly as long as 9-12 months.
The impact for Google is that their listings are slipping in terms of currency of information in their search results. On the other hand the extra revenue generated by their AdWords programme is probably quite acceptable.
At Realnet we have monitored this situation and closely tracked its evolution. Whilst we continue to build websites that rank well and draw good traffic from their organic listings in Google we also advise new clients of this difficulty.
We offer two approaches to manage the situation.
If there is an existing website that can be upgraded rather than replaced we can usually bypass the sandbox completely.
For completely new sites, the only solution to be listed is to go along with Google and use their AdWords package.
AdWords started as a really simple and user friendly package but has, developed into an ever more capable and sophisticated option that is now quite daunting for those with neither time nor inclination to master the intricacies of developing a cost effective and productive campaign.
To help serve this need Realnet has put more internal focus on AdWords and runs many efficient and profitable client campaigns.
